The Freixo Palace, built in 1742, is a beautiful example of a Portuguese Baroque Civil monument. With authoring of the project by the known architect Nasoni, this symbolic palace was erected by D. Jerónimo de Távora e Noronha, Dean of the Sé do Porto (Porto Cathedral). Later the building and its gardens were sold to the Harmony Company which installed a mill that was expanded in the 50s and 60s.
In a Palace classified as a National Monument
The Pousada do Porto, Freixo Palace Hotel, opened in October 2009 and is the first Portuguese Pousada in the Porto city.
Situated just a few kilometres from Guimarães, the European Culture Capital 2012, the Freixo Palace is a beautiful example of Portuguese civil baroque.
