HISTORY
Alcácer do Sal is one of the oldest cities in Europe, founded before 1000 BC by the Phoenicians. Alcácer do Sal and its Castle were only permanently conquered under the rule of Afonso II of Portugal on 18 October, 1217. It was in this town that Dom Manuel I married Infanta Maria, daughter of the Catholic King and Queen of Spain, in 1500.
LOCATION AND DESTINATION
If you bring the family, visit the Estuário do Sado and look for the dolphins or visit Badoca Park for a 'safari' of various exotic animals. Less than 30 km away, you will find one of the most closely guarded secrets of the dazzling Portuguese coast: the Comporta, Carvalhal and Pego beaches.
