In a fifteenth century castle
The Pousada do Alvito at Alvito village opened in 1993 after the recuperation of the fifteenth century castle. This building has been classified, since 1910, as a National Monument and an example of the best of the Portuguese architecture, which combines the architecture of the fortress and palatial residence and of Islamic, gothic and Manueline influences.

Stepping out on the outdoor patio we can appreciate a view of the magical flickering lights from the Castle wall lights. The Alvito Castle gardens, set up in 1993 by the famous architect Goncalo Ribeiro Telles, have a built in irrigation system and were created as part of the agricultural landscape and for the enjoyment of the medieval castles.

The Restaurant
With a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere, the once dungeon is invaded with history connected with the history of the Marquis of Alvito, where we offer every palate and traditional aromas of the Alentejo cuisine, providing those who visit us with an authentic encounter with our origins.

The Pousada de Castelo de Alvito has a total of 20 rooms: 13 standard rooms, 6 superior rooms and 1 suite. The superior rooms offer unusual views, being characterized by its historical cases of the old Marquis town hall and the Ladies’ Lounge.
