HISTORY
The present Amet Haveli was built during the reign of Maharana Jagat Singh Ji-nd of Udaipur between 1734-1752 AD. He was the builder of the famous Jag Niwas, currently known as Lake Palace.

All stone work and raw materials for the construction of the lake palace were transported from the open country next to today's AMET HAVELI.

During this time the Sadargarh Jagirdar was the head of the construction work for the Mewar State. Under his watchful eyes, he built the Jag Niwas Island Palace for the Maharana of Mewar.

With the permission and finances of the Maharana, the Jagirdar of Sardargarh has built the AMET HAVELI. He was the pioneer and artictact of the BADI MAHAL (a garden palace), which he built in Jag Niwas.

The Maharana was so impressed by this architectural miracle that he ordered him to build the BADI MAHAL to the present AMET HAVELI and his palace (Udaipur Palace).

The architectural design of BADI MAHAL is basically influenced by the Mogul gardens of the Agra Fortress and the Red Fort in Delhi. After completion, the Haveli was used by the successive Maharanas as a pleasure garden for their evenings.
