Far from the restlessness and constrictions of today’s city life, surrounded by forest as far as the eye can see and close to the clouds: This historical site still is as “hoch und froh” (high and merry) as Goethe once experienced it. It is the special feat of this house, to have created out of this unmistakable motif of landscape and architecture, a composition that speaks to all the senses. The Wartburg has retained its friendly hospitality, since the times of the first pilgrims that knocked on its doors. Welcome, service and a good night’s lodging have always been - and still are - a well-kept tradition at the Hotel auf der Wartburg. Now, after ninety years as the „Gasthof für fröhliche Leut“ (guesthouse for merry people) the Hotel auf der Wartburg presents itself once again as a place of comfort, of calm and merriment. As a guest, to feel comfortable and secure as if at home might have become a rare thing – but it is not impossible.
Restaurant
Who thinks of the world of Thuringian specialities as consisting of home-made fried sausages and real Thuringian dumplings will be proven true and surprised at the same time at the Wartburg. For it is the aim of our Chef to present at the same time the true character of these classic dishes and the virtuosity of the Thuringian cuisine.

History
The Wartburg – at the crest of a two hundred meter high rock above the town of Eisenach – became a well-fortified stronghold in the middle-ages, when intrigues were manifold, turned into a magnificent residence and finally into a hostel, – a place of contemplation and safety. The storms and silences of centuries past, history and stories, imbued these old, weathered walls with an aura that is still palpable today.
