HISTORY
The origins of the castle dates back to a Slavic fortress. In 1521 the family of Minckwitz took over the dominion Drehna.

They rebuild the castle and fortified it with three towers and dug the moat. In 1697 the family of the Promnitz acquired the castle further construction activity took place.

The Baroque west side, facing the park still remains of this time. Since 1807, when the then present castle master Moritz Graf Lynar was elevated to the rank of prince, the place and the castle were renamed into Fürstlich Drehna.

Since 1877 it was the dominion of the Bremer Reeder Family Wätjen. Two generations once more supplemented and modified the interior of the castle.
