One of the most luxurious and beautiful hotels in the Paradores chain is located in Santiago de Compostela, considered the oldest hotel in the world, the destination of millions of pilgrims and one of the most visited provincial capitals in the world.
The hotel was built as a royal hospital in 1499 to accommodate pilgrims traveling to Santiago.
Santiago de Compostela is the final destination of the legendary medieval way of pilgrimship Camino de Santiago (Way of Saint James), now considered by Unesco a World Heritage Site. Until today it attracts visitors from all over the world thanks to its fantastic monuments. The town is named after the Apostle Saint James ("Santiago"), who is buried here. Santiago is certainly one of Spain's most monumental towns, with a particular architectonical style all of its own.

Guests may enjoy a peaceful and comfortable stay in room 124, built in 1798 by the administrator of the hospital, Nicolás de Neyra, to house his offices. The hall leads on to the bedroom via a few stone steps. The bedroom houses a large and comfortable 1.5 metre-wide double four poster bed. The vaulted ceiling and the stone wall are real highlights, lending a welcoming touch to the charming atmosphere.
