History
The first structure built by the Fitzgeralds was a Norman Keep; a tower like stone structure with thick walls, narrow slit windows and a lead roof. At that time the Keep would have been the core of any defence in the battle and would have been virtually impregnable. By the 15th century, the ruins of the Keep were no longer habitable. A tower, the centre part of the present Castle, was then constructed on the site of the old Keep.
The Grand Entrance Hall
Relax in front of the large open fire in the Front Hall and enjoy a sumptuous Afternoon Tea. A selection of sandwiches, dainty pastries and scones with a choice of teas or Champagne is served from 3pm to 5pm daily. We request that you make a reservation for Afternoon Teas. Receptions and Cocktail Parties may also be hosted in this great room.

Our resident pianist; playing most evenings lends to the intimate atmosphere in the Munster Room Restaurant. Dress code is ‘smart’ and a jacket is preferred for men.

Designed by Des Smyth, former Ryder Cup player, and opened in 1992, this 18-hole, par 72 championship golf course, complete with luxurious clubhouse, leads you through mature woodland and parkland. The course itself runs to 6,814 yards, off the medal tees, and covers an area of over 200 acres.

Waterford Castle Hotel offers 19 luxury rooms and suites. Individually named to reflect the long historical links of the Fitzgerald family and each with its own décor, character and charm, the Castle may also be reserved privately for groups and special events. Four poster beds, original granite Castle windows, elicate antiques, hand-painted tiles and ornate details seamlessly combine to create a restful ambience.
